FRANKSTON Bowling Club has appointed a principal contractor to deliver its $2.5 million “Frankston Wave” canopy project, marking the start of construction on one of Victoria’s most ambitious bowling facility upgrades.
MakMax Australia, internationally recognised for its tensile membrane and large-span canopy structures, has been engaged to build the covered bowling green. TigerTurf Australia will install a new synthetic surface on what will be named the Peta Murphy Showgreen, honouring the late Federal Member for Dunkley, who was a Patron of the club.
Murphy represented Dunkley from 2019 until her death from cancer in December 2023. She celebrated her 2022 re-election victory at Frankston Bowling Club, a venue she had a long association with.
The project is expected to be completed during 2026. Once finished, it will give bowlers an all-weather playing environment designed to support year-round participation and enable the club to host major events, competitions and community activities.
The completed facility is also expected to attract a range of community, social and sporting uses in addition to bowling.
Funding has been provided by the Federal Government, Victorian State Government and Frankston City Council. The club acknowledged the work of its project team, comprising Craig Williams, John Lorkin, Mark Watson and Geoff De Campo.
Construction is expected to commence shortly.
