NEARLY $70,000 in grants have been awarded to support “inclusive” local projects.
Twelve organisations received funding through the one-off Social Inclusion Action Group Frankston grant, an initiative supported by Frankston Council and the state government. The money will be used to improve disability inclusion initiatives.
Joy of the Earth Community Garden was among the grant recipients, and will use the funds to raise its garden beds. Joy of the Earth committee president Kylie Fryer said “it’s more than raising garden beds, it’s also about raising participation, connection, and community.”
Advocate Julie Fisher received funding to stage a Local Disability Expo in October at Mt Erin Secondary College. She said “as a mum of a child with disability, I’ve seen both the barriers people face and the incredible things that happen when communities choose inclusion.”
Bloom Cafe and Groundswell Community Gardens were also among the grant recipients.
