WITH the state election looming in November, the Victorian Liberal Party is locking in candidates to contest “sandbelt” seats.
Most recently, the Liberals confirmed that former nurse Bree Ambry will stand in Frankston. The seat has been held by Labor’s Paul Edbrooke since 2014.
The Frankston announcement follows prior confirmation that Jeff Shelley will stand for the Liberals in Carrum, and police commander Paul O’Halloran will stand in Mordialloc.
Jeff Shelley’s profile on the Liberal Victoria website reads that “Jeff and his wife Melinda believe that every child should have the chance for a safe, successful and confident future. That’s why together they founded 123Read2me, a local charity that helps kids who are doing it tough learn to read.
“Deeply involved in his local community, Jeff is the President of his local Lions Club. In 2020 he was awarded the Lions Clubs International Foundation’s highest honour, the Melvin Jones Fellowship.”
O’Halloran’s profile reads “Paul was raised in Mordialloc and lives locally with his wife, where they have raised their family together. Paul knows the challenges that our community faces, with rising crime and rising costs hurting local families.
“Having spent decades working for Victoria Police, Paul has a track record of saving lives, keeping families safe and tackling drug use in our community and across Victoria. In 2021, he was awarded the Australian Police Medal for his service to Victoria Police and was made Commander at Victoria Police’s Crime Command.”
