PROVINCIAL
WILD weather wreaked havoc on the cricket on Saturday with two of the four games in Provincial Division abandoned due to rain.
Mornington are still to notch a win in the 26/27 season after a close loss to Red Hill.
A number of Mornington’s batters stood up in their innings, but there were also three batters out for single figures, and two ducks in the mix.
Charlie Parker top scored for Mornington before being bowled by Harrison Borthwick for 45 runs.
The side didn’t quite make it through the full 40 overs before running out of wickets with 161 on the board.
In response, Red Hill had some solid starts and Henry Riddle top scored for the side with 38 not out. In the end they passed the total with just a little more than an over to spare, and with a single wicket in hand.
Sorrento would have been feeling confident in getting the win against Dromana after posting an impressive total but still fell short.
Corey Harris was easily the best for the Sharks, falling just short of a century with 98.
His team was well supported by Mitchell Bench who scored 45 runs off 42 balls, and a swashbuckling 48 not out off 31 balls by Dimitri Mascarenhas, including two fours and three sixes.

They passed Sorrento’s total at the beginning of the 39th over with the loss of just five wickets.
The first abandoned game for the day was the Old Peninsula versus Langwarrin clash.

Pines won the toss and elected to bat. They played out their full 40 overs and managed 168 runs. Pat Jackson was their best with 43 runs off 42 balls.
