PERFORMERS from BAM Arts in Frankston were the stars of the 2026 Special Olympics Australia opening ceremony last week.
BAM Arts is an inclusive performing arts organisation for people living with disabilities. The performers have been preparing for weeks for the opening ceremony, which took place last Monday 19 October.
The opening ceremony also featured another local, DJ Cooper Smith. The DJ is a regular feature at the Frankston Waterfront Festival.
A statement from Frankston Council read that BAM Arts members “took to the stage at Margaret Court Arena to put on a show before the Games got underway, having been asked to coordinate and choreograph the performance component of the show.”
“Joining them to add to the Frankston City feel will be local DJ Cooper Smith! One of the star attractions at Frankston Waterfront Festival earlier this year, DJ Cooper Smith has shot to fame in recent years, navigating his disability to get people dancing as he spins the decks.
“This year marks 50 years of the Special Olympics National Games and we’re so proud to see our local stars centre stage for the opening ceremony.”
