PRE-SCHOOL children from Mordialloc have been making connections with aged care residents as part of a new program.
The program, titled Jellyfish: Joining Enriching Learning Laughter Young Fun Intergenerational Supporting Happiness, brings together TLC Early Learning Mordialloc children and TLC Aged Care home residents. They have been taking part in Tai Chi, memory games, reading, storytelling, singing, drawing, music, and gardening together.
Aged care resident Gerald said the Jellyfish program “has been an amazing experience for me and one that I truly value.”
“It is a humbling experience that brings different generations together in a way that is meaningful, enjoyable, and rewarding. It provides me with a valuable opportunity to participate, contribute, and feel included. It gives me a real sense of purpose,” he said.
Resident Margaret said “for nearly three years, I have had the privilege of being part of the Jellyfish program. During this time, it has become so much more to me than simply spending time with children, though that alone is truly wonderful.”
“This program has given me the opportunity to gain knowledge, explore new experiences, and build meaningful friendships. These are the tangible benefits. But the spiritual and emotional rewards are immeasurable. To hear laughter, see the smiles and feel the gentle touch of young hands brings me a deep sense of value and purpose,” Margaret said. “Being part of the Jellyfish Program has truly enriched my life. It is a beautiful reminder that no matter our age, we all have something to give, and something to learn”.
