THE Bonbeach Baseball Club played its first match under lights last week.

Last year Kingston Council committed $125,000 towards the construction of new lighting at the baseball club. At the inaugural nighttime game under the new lights, Bonbeach White went down to Bonbeach Blue 22-3.

Bonbeach Baseball Club committee member Luke Scholes said the upgraded lights would help with training and night games. “Winter training is really difficult – it’s dark before players have finished work and school. Now we have an avenue to train at night,” he said. “The new lighting is up to Baseball Victoria spec. We are now capable of playing night games and we will lobby to host more night matches in summer.

“This outcome is due to the actions of lots of other people who have put in effort. The process of getting the lights was lobbied by a lot of members to keep the club being one of the top clubs in the council area.”

The club is recruiting for new juniors and seniors players. Anyone interested in joining can contact bonbeachstchads@gmail.com.
