CARRUM MP Sonya Kilkenny has been promoted to the Attorney-General position.
Kilkenny assumed the position after former Victorian Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes was named the new treasurer. Kilkenny will retain her role as planning minister in addition to her new responsibilities.

The state government’s new cabinet was unveiled the week prior to Christmas. The resignation of treasurer Tim Pallas sparked the re-shuffle.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said Kilkenny will “serve as our state’s new Attorney-General – making sure our justice system continues to hold offenders to account, and keep Victorians safe.”

Kilkenny was first elected in 2014. She was handed her first portfolios in mid-2022, before taking on the planning portfolio in December of that year. As planning minister she has handed down major housing decisions across the state – she has approved high-rises in Frankston and implemented new controls in the Endeavour Cove precinct.

Mordialloc MP Tim Richardson was named parliamentary secretary to the Premier in the cabinet re-shuffle.
