MENTAL health advocate Chelsea Frawley will speak at Cheltenham Library next week as part of Men’s Health Week.
Chelsea Frawley is the daughter of St Kilda Football Club legend Danny Frawley, who died by suicide in 2019. Since her father’s death, Chelsea Frawley has dedicated herself to raising awareness for mental health.
Frawley said that the Men’s Health Week was an opportunity to reflect on the importance of life-saving conversations. “I am looking forward to talking about early intervention and prevention and unpacking the skills needed to cope with life’s highs and lows,” she said.
“Empowering the community to know how to feel more resilient and mentally fit is central to what I cover in my community sessions. There is still some stigma attached to men talking about their mental health. Men and women face struggles and depression but sadly three out of four suicides are men.”
Frawley said that “women are very welcome” at the event. “I will talk about my lived experience of supporting someone in my life with mental health challenges.
“We’ll talk about recognising signs, next steps and the support available.”
The event takes place at Cheltenham Library, Thursday 11 June at 6.30pm. To book a free spot visit libraryevents.kingston.vic.gov.au
