VOTERS in the Kingston Council by-election have been urged to submit their votes as soon as possible, as ballot packs were mailed out to eligible residents last week.
The Victorian Electoral Commission confirmed on 13 July that ballot packs had been mailed to eligible Melaleuca Ward residents. Ballots must be in the mail or delivered to the VEC election office by 6 pm next Friday, 31 July.
Melaleuca Ward election manager Sally Joy said people should vote “as early as possible” to ensure the process runs smoothly.
“This election is postal, so it’s important to complete and return your ballot material as soon as possible to make sure your vote counts,” Joy said.
Kingston Council has been without a Melaleuca Ward councillor since March, when former councillor Tess Law resigned. 13 candidates have nominated for the by-election.
The VEC election office is based at 1230 Nepean Hwy, Cheltenham. The VEC says that voters who haven’t received their ballot pack by 21 July should call 131 832.
“Candidates who have nominated for the by-election are listed in the ballot packs and on the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) website at vec.vic.gov.au. If candidates have provided them, there will also be candidate photos and statements in the packs and answers to the candidate questionnaire online” the VEC said. “Voting is compulsory for all voters who were on the roll for this election at 4 pm on Wednesday 20 May. Voters who don’t vote may be fined.”
