A PROPOSED 15-storey tower on Davey Street in Frankston has been given the green light to proceed.
The development at 8 Davey Street was approved by Frankston councillors at their most recent public meeting. The approved plans include 140 residential apartments and 80 hotel rooms as part of a 24-hour hotel; and also allow for the widening of Bay Lane from the Nepean Highway intersection to the eastern end of the site.
Frankston Council mayor Sue Baker said that council estimates the finished project will bring in an additional $4 million in tourism spending. “The development addresses a gap in market for traditional hotel offerings in the area, set to play a bigger role in our economy as our city’s tourism appeal strengthens, encouraging visitation and local spending from outside the municipality,” she said.
“Frankston has long been considered a day-trip destination, but this addition to our short stay accommodation offerings will provide the opportunity to extend your stay in Frankston. You can spend the afternoon at the beach, dine at one of our city’s many brilliant restaurants and bars, see a show at the award-winning Frankston Arts Centre, spend the night at the new complex and soak up a sunrise by the water the following morning.
“This development gives investors increased confidence in the region and affirms the planning undertaken as part of Frankston’s transformation. With more jobs created, more living options and more spending to come from the development, this is a significant result set to benefit a wide cross-section of our community.”
The project will be undertaken by PACE Development Group, which is also responsible for the 438–444 Nepean Highway project.
