PHYLLIS Miles was crossing McCormicks Road when she was struck and killed. More than two years on from her death, a pedestrian crossing has been installed on the road in a bid to prevent future incidents. Pedestrian operated signals have replaced the old island on the busy Carrum Downs road. Ms Miles’ grandson Michael and niece Amanda Cox have been vocal advocates for safety works on the road. TWO men have been arrested and charged after a horror fatal crash in Carrum Downs last week. Tributes have flowed for Timmy Rakei, who was killed in the incident on the morning of 9 November. The 44-year-old Bayswater man was working on Hall Road when he was struck in an alleged hit and run. Mr Rakei died at the scene. A second person, a 38-year-old man from Bayswater, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries which have since been downgraded to serious. Police have this afternoon arrested two men following an alleged hit-run collision that occurred in Carrum Downs earlier this week. A 30-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested at a property on Boundary Road in Carrum Downs just after 2pm. He was taken to Frankston Police Station where he will be interviewed by detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit in relation to the collision that occurred on Hall Road on Tuesday morning. Police say stolen card numbers were used in fraudulent transactions across Mentone, Keysborough, Mornington, Fairfield, Preston, Ballarat, Delacombe, and Echuca. Goods totalling $22,000 have been fraudulently bought between April and August. CCTV images of people police wish to speak to have been released.
