KINGSTON Council is weighing up how it will advocate in regards to Suburban Rail Loop projects in the municipality. The proposed multi-billion dollar rail loop project starts from Cheltenham. The former Delta landfill site in Heatherton has been identified by the state government as its preferred location for stabling, angering some residents (“Stabling plans spark protest”, The News, 17/3/21). The stabling site at Heatherton will be assessed as part of the Environment Effects Statement hearings. A MAN was injured after he was hit while riding his bike in Carrum Downs last week. At around 5.30am on 30 July, the 50-year-old cyclist collided with a car at the intersection of Thompsons Road and Frankston-Dandenong Road. The Sandhurst resident was injured in the collision. The driver stopped to speak to the cyclist, but police say no details were exchanged. Investigators are seeking witnesses to help them work out the circumstances of the incident. TWO Mentone Girls’ Grammar graduates have received a Premier’s VCE Award for their achievements in school last year. Ella Phillips and Emily Dunne received awards for their results in French and Creative Digital Media respectively. Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Frankston this morning. Police were called to a property in Petrie Street following reports a man had been injured about 3am. The man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene. GRANTS have been handed to 12 young local athletes to help them take part in competitions. The successful applicants for the Dunkley Local Sporting Champions grant program will receive between $500 and $700. The funding will go towards travel, accommodation, uniforms, or equipment.
