The 78-year-old woman was located deceased inside her Drinan Road home after police conducted a welfare check about 10.30am. YOUNG handball athletes did battle at Mordialloc Beach Primary School this month, competing in the finals of the National Handball Championships. The championships were held at primary schools across Australia. Nearly 14,000 students have competed in the competition, with around 400 children aged between six and 12 making it to the finals. A TRUCK driver and train passengers escaped major injuries after a collision at the Lochiel Avenue level crossing last week. On 7 May, a truck was hit at the Edithvale crossing. The tray of the truck was dislodged and pushed into the boom gates. A TRUCK rollover closed the left-hand lane of Peninsula Link south-bound for four hours, Monday 3 May. The cement mixer, loaded with 13 cubic metres of concrete weighing 13 tonnes, flipped after the driver tried to correct a drift into the inside lane. Sergeant Bruce Buchan, of Somerville Highway Patrol, said the truck veered into shrubbery and ploughed through a light pole, 2pm. The driver, a Springvale man, 56, was not injured in the incident and did not require hospital treatment.
