ON Monday, Alan Chambers set off to tackle a 15,000 kilometre journey in his 1978 Volvo 244. Mr Chambers, a Frankston South resident, is hitting the road to celebrate the 40 year anniversary of the Round Australia Trial, won by legendary race car driver Peter Brock in 1979. RATEPAYERS will foot the bill for a gift to departing Kingston CEO John Nevins. Kingston Council voted on 22 July to “approve the expenditure of $2,000 for the purposes of a gift to the retiring CEO”. The vote was carried unanimously. Cr Steve Staikos said “it’s a very small gesture of appreciation.” Mr Nevins was at council for 14 years. Mr Nevins will depart on 26 August. POLICE are searching for the owner of a bicycle found at a Carrum address. The found bicycle frame is a Gitane Mach 1200. The owner of the bike is urged to contact Senior Constable Ross Williams at Chelsea Police Station on 8773 3200. A Victoria Police spokesperson said “please be aware that there has been a spate of bike thefts in the Chelsea and Carrum areas. KINGSTON Council has voted to note that a provision of over $2 million has been made to refund parking fines to ratepayers. Earlier this year, council announced it would refund fines to residents after finding that their appeals process may have been improper. Kingston Council had outsourced their appeal process for fines to an external agency between 2006 and 2016, a process that council later believed was in violation of the Infringements Act 2006. THERE has been an outpouring of community support for a local mother who died during childbirth last week. Chelsea Kindergarten vice president Bec Elizabeth and her daughter Peyton died last week after complications during labour. Ms Elizabeth was engaged to her partner Dale Foster, and is mother to 15-month-old Jax.
