Shortly after 4 p.m. a salesman employed at Shanks and Co’s ware- house, 351 Flinders Lane, noticed that the goods lift was some distance below the ground floor. BAXTER will celebrate its centenary on Sunday 6 May and, to mark the occasion, Baxter Residents and Traders Progress Action Committee will hold a shindig at Baxter Primary School on Sunday 18 March. All proceeds will go to the school. A MAN seen near bushland is believed to have started a fire behind the football clubrooms at Jubilee Park reserve, 10.10am, Tuesday 13 February. The fire near Nursery Avenue, Frankston, burnt through 140 square metres of bushland. Detective Senior Constable Mark Garrett, of Frankston CIU, said the man was aged 20-30, wearing a blue t-shirt, short fair hair, carrying a bag with a white strap. A COCKATOO man smoking under a footbridge on the Frankston foreshore received a fractured cheekbone and other facial injuries when he was set upon by four men, 10.10pm, Sunday 28 January. Detective Senior Constable Mark Garrett, of Frankston CIU, said the man, 41, and a mate were approached by a man who asked for a cigarette. When he refused the man walked away but another man – one of four – approached and said the refusal had caused offence. A MAN’S body was spotted by a passer-by floating in the bay at the base of Olivers Hill, 6.30am, Wednesday 14 February. Water Police retrieved the body. The circumstances surrounding the man’s death are not yet known and he is yet to be identified. Police are not treating the death as suspicious and are preparing a report for the coroner.
