A MAN who grabbed a six-pack of bourbon from the Thirsty Camel outlet in Beach St, Frankston, was tackled by the shop assistant as he ran from the store, 8pm, Monday 6 June. Detective Leading Senior Constable Helen Vanzetta, of Frankston CIU, said the shop assistant grappled with the knife-wielding thief and was “smacked on the left side of his face receiving a fractured cheekbone”. Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a burglary which occurred at a café in Frankston in April. Officers have been told a thief broke walked into the café, which is located inside a shopping complex on Beach Street, about 7am. Once inside the store the man located a safe and stolen a large sum of money. The man then left the complex and was last seen headed along Beach Street. AN elderly man was scammed of $4800 by a conman falsely claiming to be an Optus representative, 11am, Friday 26 May. The victim, a resident of a retirement village in McLeod Rd, Patterson Lakes, received a phone call from a man possibly with a Canadian accent claiming he was from Optus and that the company had mistakenly paid $2500 into his account. The victim was instructed to buy that amount of Apple iTunes vouchers from the Patterson Lakes Coles and Woolworths stores, which he did. KINGSTON detectives raided properties in Ascot Vale and Flemington this week and recovered a large quantity of property stolen during a burglary at Rennison St, Parkdale, Tuesday 30 May. The victim identified his bike for sale on online and police identified a suspect. Search warrants were executed Monday for this burglary and three others in the Kingston police area.
