A PASSING CFA volunteer saved a cat from its burning Frankston South house last week. The volunteer was on his way to a funeral when he noticed the blaze in the renovated brick veneer in Frankston-Flinders Rd, 1pm, Wednesday 31 May. Stopping to assist he noticed the cat pawing at a window. He picked up a rock and smashed the glass allowing the cat to escape. He then called in the emergency. NINE teenagers enjoying an impromptu basketball match at Ballam Park were terrorised by thugs, 9pm, Friday 26 May. The 16-17-year-olds were shooting hoops when six older men and a woman aged in their late teens-early 20s approached and grabbed a backpack. The 16-year-old owner ran up and tried to retrieve the bag before falling to the ground and being dragged along. WOULD-BE thieves forced a side door at Langwarrin Plaza shopping centre and tried to cut open an ATM from the rear, early Tuesday morning, 30 May. Detective Senior Constable Deanne Williams, of Frankston CIU, said the raid was unsuccessful and the ATM withstood the robbery attempt. A COUNTY Court judge last week sentenced Caleb Jakobsson to seven years in jail for riding his mini-bike into, and killing, a Carrum Downs woman in September 2015. Judge Campton found the now 20-year-old guilty of culpable driving causing death and failing to stop immediately after the accident outside Carrum Downs Shopping Centre. She imposed a non-parole period of four years and disqualified him from applying for a licence for four years.
