A LIBRARY born in its founder’s living room will celebrate 40 years of bringing joy to children this month at an open day on Saturday 20 May. The Frankston Toy Library, now based at Ebdale Community Hub, first opened its doors to the community in 1977 at the home of founder Bev Le Bas. The library hires out toys, books and educational games and puzzles to children and hosts parent’s groups sessions for all the family in return for a minimal annual membership fee. A CREDIT card from a stolen purse was used to buy items in Aspendale in March. Police Media’s Creina O’Grady said a woman noticed her purse was missing after getting off a train at Aspendale on Monday 27 March. Then, between 5.30-7pm, the credit card was used to buy cigarettes, food, alcohol and lottery tickets at seven businesses in and around the Aspendale area. Police are appealing for a woman who may have been a witness to a sexual assault in Mentone earlier this year to come forward. It is believed a woman had been exercising on a beachside path, near the intersection of Charman and Beach roads, when she was approached by a man about 7.30pm on Tuesday, 7 March. As the woman walked towards the Bay Trail the man struck up a conversation with her and then sexually assaulted her before she managed to run off. TERRIFIED Coles staff watched on as two men attempted to force their way through the front doors of the Patterson Lakes store, 4.50am, Tuesday 25 April. A staff member heard a noise at the front of the store, in Gladesville Blvd, and saw the men wearing balaclavas and fluoro vests using a jemmy bar on the door. FOUR men wearing fluoro vests and using a concrete saw were disturbed while trying to cut open an ATM at an Aspendale Gardens shopping centre, 2.50am, Wednesday 26 April. The men, driving an $80,000 Holden HSV Club Sports sedan stolen in an aggravated burglary from a house in Berwick in February, forced open glass sliding doors to the shopping mall and began cutting into the ATM – but caused so much noise that neighbours called 000.
