Police are investigating after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted during a home invasion in Cheltenham yesterday. Investigators have been told the 16-year-old was asleep in the rear bungalow of her family home in Devon Street when she awoke to find an unknown man sitting on the edge of her bed about 2.30am. The man spoke to the girl and threatened to produce a knife before sexually assaulting her. He remained in the bungalow for about an hour before leaving. MENTONE Girls’ Secondary College and the Mordialloc and District Historical Society have collaborated to showcase 25 photographs from World War I. These photos display the remarkable images of soldier Carl Janssen, taken when the Anzacs were training in Egypt. Until now, the photographs have only ever been stored in the Victorian State Library. Now they will be on display, organised by the students at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College at the museum. This exhibition marks the first time these photographs have been publicly exhibited. CLIENT services formally provided by nurses at the former Royal District Nursing Service offices at Rosebud and Frankston are now being handled from Moorabbin. The service has given assurances that the change will not affect “service levels”. A revamp of RDNS operations across the state has also led to the loss of 45 full time nursing positions. Solidarity was the theme at Frankston’s IDAHOT Day flag raising ceremony at the Civic Centre flagpoles, Davey St, on Friday. The word stands for International Day Against Homophopia and Transphobia. Frankston Council hosted the ceremony and morning tea to support the international day on Sunday 17 May. The council raised the rainbow flag for the entire weekend in “solidarity with an inclusive community where all are welcome”. FRANKSTON police last week arrested and charged a Parkdale woman with possessing and making $50 notes at her home. Detective Sergeant Jason Hocking said police seized instruments and materials used to make the fake notes over a six-month period. He believes they were passed in the Frankston area. The woman, 21, has been bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court in June. “Traders should be vigilant when receiving $50 notes and forward any suspicious notes to police,” Det.
