A FRANKSTON councillor is pushing for a rate cut. Cr Steven Hughes has put forward a proposal to cut general rates for Frankston residents by five per cent in the 2022/2023 financial year. THE long-awaited multi-storey car park at Frankston Station is moving closer to construction with community consultation underway. Consultation is open now. The project is expected to cost $87 million with a projected completion date of 2024. The car park project is expected to include 500 parking spaces, and CCTV. It will be delivered by the Level Crossing Removal Project. The federal and state governments have each allocated $43.5 million to the project. A REPORT into the planned redevelopment of Kingswood Golf Course in Dingley Village is expected to be handed to the planning minister soon. The golf course is now owned by AustralianSuper, which paid $125 million for the land in 2014. Its plans to subdivide the land and build hundreds of houses has turned into a saga which has stretched years, with Kingston Council first abandoning the planning scheme amendment in 2018. LABOR has committed to spending $15 million on the redevelopment of the Frankston Basketball Stadium if it wins the federal election. The planned upgrade is expected to include the addition of two new basketball courts, the full redevelopment of courts seven and eight as multi-purpose basketball courts, refurbishment works on courts one to four, an improved foyer and office spaces, gymnastics facilities, and mezzanine spectator viewing. FOLLOWING the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal’s decision to grant pay rises to councillors, deputy mayors and mayors across Victoria, Mornington Peninsula Shire mayor Anthony Marsh has released a statement to “set the record straight”. The mayor stated “the deputy mayor’s allowance has been increased from $34,588 to $59,659. However, this new allowance is not an increase but a correction”.
