FRANKSTON Council has agreed to spend over $800,000 of ratepayer’s money on upgrading its websites. Councillors have ticked off a two-year contract with OpenCities with the provision of two two year extensions and a one year extension. The total spend for the life of the contract including extensions is $838,200. A NINE storey building could soon tower over Playne Street. At their most recent meeting, Frankston councillors flagged their support for the project at 35 Playne Street. The proposed development would be used for retail tenancy and commercial use. A Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal hearing for the proposal has been set for 30 August. Frankston Council will advise VCAT that it supports the proposal. The proposed development will stand at 39.3 metres, which exceeds the preferred height limit of 32 metres nominated in Frankston Council’s metropolitan activity centre structure plan. THE demolitions of Edithvale, Chelsea, and Bonbeach stations have been scheduled for next month. To allow for the safe demolition of the stations, a section of the Frankston train line will close from 9pm on Sunday 25 July until the first service on Monday 2 August. While the line is closed, bus replacements will run between Mordialloc and Frankston. Five level crossing removals on the Frankston line are currently underway – Edithvale Road, Swanpool Avenue, Chelsea Road, Argyle Avenue, and Bondi Road. The line is being lowered into trenches. VICTORIA’S lockdown has continued into this week. The “circuit breaker” lockdown was due to end at 11.59pm on 3 June, but was extended by a week. There remain five reasons to leave home, shopping for food and supplies, authorised work and study, care and caregiving, exercise, and getting vaccinated. A CONTROVERSIAL plan to heritage list Frankston homes has been abandoned. Frankston Council’s “gap heritage review” had identified 24 sites to be considered for heritage protection. In addition to the Riviera Hotel in Seaford and the Frankston Mechanics Institute, several local homes were also earmarked for heritage overlay. Homeowners set to be affected by the heritage review reacted with outrage.
