A NEED for more regulation for private airports will form part of Kingston Council’s submission to the federal government’s aviation policy review. Kingston councillors agreed to make a submission to the review at a meeting this month. In a statement it said that it will call for stronger requirements for consultation with airport businesses during master plan processes, more investment in airport facilities, protections for neighbouring homes from tall buildings, and stronger regulation over privately-run airports. THE opening of the Mordialloc Freeway has helped reduce the number of serious car crashes on surrounding roads, a new report has revealed. The Mordialloc Freeway, a nine-kilometre road linking the Mornington Peninsula Freeway in Aspendale Gardens to the Dingley Bypass in Dingley Village, opened in November 2021. Major Road Projects Victoria has since commissioned an independent assessment of the completed project. Arup Australia conducted the assessment. It found that since the freeway opened, the crash rate by fatal and serious injuries has reduced by 30 percent on parallel arterial roads. Rear end crashes reduced by 14 percent. The assessment…

THE new planning guidelines for the Endeavour Cove precinct in Patterson Lakes have been implemented. The Patterson Lakes precinct has been subject to complex planning guidelines. Decisions made within the precinct in the last 30 years have been highly controversial and were probed by the Victorian Ombudsman in 2021. New planning guidelines for the marina precinct were gazetted by the state government’s planning department on 17 November. The planning scheme amendment took shape throughout 2022, and a planning panel assessed it earlier this year. CRICKET PROVINCIAL SOME good bowling has put Sorrento in pole position for a win over Langwarrin on the first day of their two-day clash. Langwarrin chose to bat first on what was a wet and dreary day of cricket on Saturday. Their first three batters made starts, but were sent back to the sheds without converting them into big totals. A PLANNING panel is expected to consider the appropriateness of proposed 16-storey height limits in Frankston’s city centre. Frankston Council’s metropolitan activity centre structure plan has been in the works throughout this council term. The plan outlines new “preferred” height limits of up to 16 storeys, or 54 metres, in Frankston’s city centre. The limits can be exceeded at council’s discretion.
