THE Frankston Coast Guard has packed up and moved out of their old building in Pier Promenade, which is set to be demolished. The old building in Frankston will be knocked down after Frankston Council voted unanimously to help relocate the Coast Guard to a new temporary location at its 13 August public meeting. The Coast Guard has been lobbying council to approve the demolition of the building on Pier Promenade since September 2017, when council voted to defer a decision to allocate $55,000 in funding towards further planning and consultation. FRANKSTON Dolphins have taken a major step towards funding new broadcast quality lights at their Frankston Park ground, with the federal Liberal party this week announcing an $850,000 contribution to the cause. The money will be put towards the new lighting structures, which could see the ground host night matches to be broadcast on television. FATHER Bob Maguire was the headline act at a Chelsea Rotary Club event on 14 August, as he was made a Paul Harris Fellow for the second time by the club in recognition for his community work. Pastor Bill Nagy was the second person presented with a fellowship on the night, which was only had 65 previous recipients in the rotary club’s 64 year history. THE Chelsea Heights Kindergarten has received a $1 million facelift, with a new indoor learning space and outdoor undercover area among the new facilities opened at the centre on 14 August. 104 year old Ethel Hulls, a former teacher at the kindergarten, was among the guests to attend the opening. Early Childhood Education Minister Jenny Mikakos and Mordialloc MP Tim Richardson also visited Chelsea Heights Kindergarten to celebrate the completion of the refurbishments. A YOUNG lifesaver has been recognised for over a decade of volunteer work with the Bonbeach Life Saving Club by being nominated for the Premier’s Volunteer Champion Awards. Carrum VCE student Chelsey Reindel said she was “quite honoured” to have received the nomination. “I didn’t go into life saving thinking I’d get something out of it. It was more just to help the community out and help people learn new skills,” she said.
