RISING sea levels will pose a huge risk to Frankston’s coastline this century, according to a state government-commissioned report released last week. The “Port Phillip Bay Coastal Hazard Assessment” report was published last week. The lengthy technical report assessed potential damage to Port Phillip coastlines if sea levels rise by 1.4 metres. AN inquest into the death of Mordialloc-raised woman Elly Warren has failed to return a conclusive finding. Warren went to Mozambique for a six-week trip in 2016. Days before she was scheduled to come home, her body was found face-down near a bathroom in Tofo. She died aged just 20. For more than seven years, Warren’s family has been fighting to have her death thoroughly investigated. The application for an inquest into her death was accepted at the end of 2020. MAJOR party candidates for the Dunkley by-election are expected to be confirmed imminently. Incumbent Dunkley MP Peta Murphy died from metastatic breast cancer in December. She won the seat for Labor in 2019, and retained it at the 2022 federal election. A by-election will be held to install a new federal MP. A date for the Dunkley by-election will be locked in soon. MORE than 600 cats and nearly 100 dogs were euthanased by Frankston Council’s contracted animal shelter in the first six months of 2023. New statewide statistics on the fate of animals who enter shelters and pounds have been released by Animal Welfare Victoria. The statistics cover the period between 1 January 2023 and 30 June 2023. During that time The Lost Dogs Home Casey, which provides animal shelter services for Frankston Council, admitted 2201 cats and put down 652.
