FRANKSTON Private Hospital is now officially the Frankston Public Surgical Centre. Peninsula Health began operating the hospital on 1 September. Earlier this year the state government announced that the private hospital would be converted into a public surgery centre to help catch up on elective surgeries. When the conversion is complete, the Frankston Public Surgical Centre is expected to complete around 9000 elective surgeries and endoscopies each year. Elective surgeries have now begun at the centre. The hospital contains three operating theatres and 60 inpatient beds. A CORONIAL inquest into the death of a man after an incident at Frankston Bunnings in 2016 has been completed. 31-year-old Anthony Georgiou died on 12 September 2016 after an alleged physical altercation with two security guards at Frankston Bunnings earlier in the day. Last week the coroner handed down a report into his death. The report concluded that “there seems little doubt that had Georgiou not been involved in the struggle” then “he would have walked away from Bunnings that day.” One of the security guards told the inquest that he had put Georgiou in a headlock, and that…

A RECENT survey of Frankston residents has revealed that opinions of Frankston Council are improving. The survey of more than 800 people found that around 71 per cent of residents are satisfied overall with the performance of Frankston Council. That statistic is an increase on last year’s figure of 67 per cent. The survey report read that the average satisfaction rate for metropolitan Victorian councils is 66 per cent. The Metropolis Research report read that satisfaction with Frankston Council’s community decisions, advocacy, consultation, and overall leadership had each risen by at least 10 per cent. THE state government will fund new “urgent care” centres across the state in a bid to ease the pressure on emergency departments. Frankston will host one of 25 new urgent care centres set up across Victoria.
