FRANKSTON police’s Operation Shadow aims to investigate, disrupt and arrest known repeat offenders engaged in high volume crime. Superintendent Glenn Weir, who heads Southern Metro region, said thefts of cars and from cars would receive a high priority focus, as would public order and anti-social behaviour at shopping centres and train stations. “The state government has announced the provision of extra police and we hope we get our fair share in Frankston to bolster our capacity,” he said. “Hopefully it will flow onto the whole Mornington Peninsula down the track.” Superintendent Weir said the Frankston police district was suffering “an…

FIT and active, lean and strong … that doesn’t sound like the CV of a potential heart attack victim, but the biggest killer of adult Australians is anything but predictable. To prove that point, more than 100 patients have gone through Peninsula Health’s new chest pain unit in less than two months and one, Pearcedale’s Dale Worthington, certainly doesn’t fit the mould of the usual victims. Mr Worthington, a 41 year old kitchen-and-bathroom renovator, was at work when he experienced a loss of breath and tightness in his chest. He went straight to his doctor who referred him on to…
THOSE experiencing tough times, with nowhere permanent to live and few job prospects, find the help and comfort provided by welfare officers invaluable. And, when a young wife and baby are also affected, relief in the knowledge that someone cares is morale-boosting, to say the least. Their mission is to provide quality services based on social justice to support the physical and emotional well-being. “Many people in our community feel so isolated and helpless about their life situation that just coming in and speaking with a…

Generating local community action – central to the findings of the National Ice Taskforce – will be the focus of the Frankston Ice Forum, 6.30pm, Wednesday 27 April, at Peninsula City Church. Dunkley MP Bruce Billson and Peninsula Voice are active participants in the forum. “The devastation that ice causes to our community is very real,…
FRANKSTON detectives are reeling in the wake of 53 night-time car break-ins last week resulting in the loss of dozens of wallets, handbags and other valuables – all crimes, they say, that are easily prevented. Inside several cars were spare keys for the same cars or the owners’ homes, meaning the thieves were given ready access to even more booty. The robberies come on top of 43 car break-ins the previous week, which included the theft of 20 number plates. These will be used to shielding thieves as they perform drive-throughs on petrol stations, commit armed robberies and engage in…
