TWO Seaford primary schools and a Frankston South secondary school have been recognised in the 2016 Victorian School Design Awards.
Kakanook Primary School won and Seaford North Primary Schools was a finalist in the ‘Best School Project’ in the below $1 million category, while Mount Erin Secondary College in Frankston South was a finalist in the ‘Best Secondary School’ category.
Kananook Primary School assistant principal Stuart Gilchrist said the school won the award for its “fantastic” new open learning centre and IT space, which provided students with a bright, comfortable and functional facility.
The project was completed in July for $300,000.
“It’s a great space that the students love and allows collective open plan learning with custom-designed ‘stand up’ workbenches, which are very flexible in their usage,” he said.
Students can use the benches for IT, partner work, individual work and large group activities.
Fourteen schools from across the state were shortlisted for the awards, which showcased how modern school design can benefit students.
State Education Minister James Merlino presented the awards last week.
“These awards are a great opportunity for local schools and architects to showcase how innovative school design contributes to a better education for our kids,” Mr Merlino said.
