SAND renourishment works are underway at Carrum beach this week.
At least 5000 cubic metres of sand is being dredged from the mouth of the Patterson River and will be transported from the dredger to Carrum beach through a pipe to be spread by an excavator.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) says the sand will initially be a darker colour but will bleach lighter within two weeks of being exposed to sunlight on the beach.
Access to sections of the beach in front of the Carrum Surf Lifesaving Club will be limited during the renourishment works.
“This project will provide protection to the foreshore vegetation against coastal erosion by the construction of sand fencing and will expand the width to give better beach access and use,” Carrum Labor MP Sonya Kilkenny said.
