FRANKSTON Council has agreed to continue using fireworks for their local events after completing a cost analysis into alternatives.
In January council considered cancelling the fireworks display for the 2020 Waterfront Festival in the wake of the bushfire season. They decided to go ahead with the display, and last week reinforced that decision by voting to endorse continuing fireworks displays at the Christmas Festival of Lights and the annual Waterfront Festival.
A council-conducted analysis looked at the comparative costs of different displays based on one event. They found that a fireworks display would cost between $7000 and $10,000, while a drone display would cost upwards of $170,000. They determined that a laser show would cost between $20,000 and $100,000, and a projection show would cost between $50,000 and $100,000.
