A SISTER city agreement with Suva in Fiji is set to be officially signed this month.

Frankston Council approved the establishment of the sister city relationship with Suva in September last year. In November council signed the memorandum of understanding.

Cr Kris Bolam, who was mayor when the decision was made, has travelled to Fiji this week to formalise and sign the agreement. Ratepayer money is not being used to fund the trip.

Honourable Premila Kumar, the Fijian minister for industry, trade, tourism, local government, housing and community development, is expected to meet with Cr Bolam to sign the document.

Frankston also has sister city partnerships with Susono in Japan and Wuxi in China.

After signing the memorandum of understanding last year, Cr Bolam said the relationship would provide “an opportunity for greater sharing, such as connections between schools that enable young people to learn more about each other and develop friendships that have value for generations to come.” (“Frankston forms friendship with Fiji” The Times 14/12/21)
