KINGSTON councillor Jane Agirtan has faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to defend a criminal charge. Agirtan appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 25 February for a mention hearing. After a short closed court hearing, the Magistrate agreed to adjourn the matter to 7 April. Despite media applications, the Magistrate elected not to release the charge sheet at the hearing on Tuesday, 25 February.

Agirtan was elected to Kingston Council at last year’s local government elections. This is her first term serving on council. Agirtan represents Chicquita Ward, which encompasses Cheltenham, Heatherton, Moorabbin Airport, and Mentone.

The News is not suggesting Agirtan is guilty of criminal wrongdoing, only that she has faced court.
