A PUSH to install Cr Tess Law* on the CEO remuneration committee has failed.
The proposal occupied close to an hour of debate time at Kingston Council’s February meeting, After finally deciding to defer the vote, councillors considered the proposal again at their public meeting last week. The matter was resolved much quicker this time around, with the motion voted down within a few minutes of being raised.
The motion assessed by councillors last week asked for a report “considering the following inclusions in the Committee delegations and appointments: up to a maximum of four councillor delegates to the Chief Executive Officer Employment Matters Committee; a requirement that appointment of councillors to the Chief Executive Officer Employment Matters Committee be based upon demonstrated capability, governance expertise and relevant professional experience, as consistent with the intent and requirements of the CEO Employment and Remuneration Policy; and the immediate appointment of Cr Tess Law to the Chief Executive Officer Employment Matters Committee.”
Only Cr Tony Athanosopoulos voted in favour of the motion. Cr Law was absent from the meeting.
The matter was deferred in February “pending verification by officers of Cr Law’s qualifications and experience”. Council officers noted in last week’s agenda that “the qualifications and experience of Cr Law as referenced within the motion are validated.”
*Editor’s note: Tess Law resigned from Kingston Council shortly after publication deadline
