SIX Frankston parks are vying for a share of Victorian Government funding, with community votes set to determine which projects get the green light.
The parks are shortlisted in Round 2 of the state government’s $30m Pick My Park program, which supports new and upgraded parks across Victoria. Myrtle, Cavill and Burgess Reserves in Langwarrin, Escarpment and Alicudi Reserves in Frankston South, and Rotary Park in Carrum Downs are all in the running.
Residents can vote for their three favourite Frankston projects on the Pick My Park page on Engage Victoria before 4pm on 3 August.
“We often hear from residents about how important local parks and play spaces are to their families and neighbourhoods,” said Frankston mayor Cr Sue Baker.
Cr Baker said council had completed 28 play space upgrades across the municipality over the past five years. “We’re proud of these play spaces, but opportunities like Pick My Park help us to do even more,” she said.
At Rotary Park in Carrum Downs, proposed improvements guided by community feedback include upgraded picnic and BBQ facilities, a learn-to-ride/scooter circuit with traffic signs, an inclusive spinner and trampoline, a slide, cubby, new paths and upgraded landscaping.
Frankston Council secured $915,000 through Round 1 of the program across six local projects, which council matched to deliver a total investment of $1.83m in community infrastructure. The first of those projects – accessible path upgrades at George Pentland Botanic Gardens – is set to kick off shortly.
