THE field of candidates for Frankston at the upcoming state election is growing.
The seat is currently held by Labor’s Paul Edbrooke, who will stand again. The Liberals have preselected former nurse Bree Ambry to contest the election.
Last week, Chrysten Abraham announced her intention to run as an independent. She said “people are searching for an alternative to the major parties, and many are aligning with One Nation as a result. But if voters have the choice of a strong Independent candidate, they have the opportunity to support a genuine alternative.”
Abraham has previously stood as a Liberatarian candidate. She ran for Dunkley at the 2024 by-election, Flinders at the 2022 federal election, and Frankston at the 2022 state election.
One Nation had not announced a Frankston candidate by publication deadline, however nominations will not close until 9 November. The election takes place on 28 November.
The Greens have announced Katie Goulas as its Frankston candidate. Goulas’ profile on the Greens website reads “I’m a justice advocate, retail worker and Frankston local currently studying a Masters of Justice and Criminology. I love living near the beach and the variety of nature the area has. I care deeply about living sustainably and caring for the environment.
“When I’m out in my community, I see the pressures facing individuals and families. When services like healthcare, education and affordable housing are limited, the repercussions are vast. An outcome I often see is involvement in the criminal justice system through my volunteer advocacy for children caught up in juvenile detention.”
Andrew Cheeseman has been announced as the Victorian Socialists’ candidate for Frankston. Julie Harman is the Animal Justice Party’s candidate.
