SAFETY infrastructure around Mordialloc is under scrutiny after multiple anti-social incidents.
The most prominent recent incident was at Mordialloc Pier on 18 October, when an 18-year-old sustained deep lacerations to his wrists after an alleged group brawl. Shortly afterwards police arrested three teenagers in relation to an alleged affray at the nearby Mordialloc Woolworths supermarket, and said in a statement that detectives would “investigate if this incident was linked to the stabbing.” (“Stabbing under investigation” The News, 26/10/2026).
Last week, Kingston councillors called for an immediate review into the safety infrastructure around Mordialloc. Kingston Council is set to write to the state government and Victoria Police expressing “serious concern regarding repeated incidents of violence and antisocial behaviour in Mordialloc and requesting immediate action to strengthen community safety,” a motion approved at last week’s council meeting read.
The motion stated that Kingston Council will “request the Chief Executive Officer to urgently engage with Victoria Police and relevant Victorian Government agencies to identify and coordinate immediate practical measures available to improve community safety, including an immediate review of lighting, visibility, public space design and other safety infrastructure around Mordialloc Pier, Main Street, the foreshore and surrounding public spaces.”
The council motion also called for “a review of existing CCTV coverage and opportunities to improve surveillance and information sharing, subject to appropriate legal, privacy and operational requirements; coordination of appropriate council local laws, amenity and community safety activities within council’s existing powers and responsibilities; and opportunities for improved engagement with local businesses, residents, young people and community organisations to identify emerging issues and support prevention initiatives.”
The motion, raised by Cr Sarah O’Donnell, was unanimously passed by councillors. It read that council “strongly condemns the recent incidents of serious violence, threatening behaviour and antisocial activity in Mordialloc, particularly the incident at Mordialloc Pier on 18 October 2026, and reaffirm that every resident, business owner, worker and visitor has the right to feel safe in our streets, shopping precincts, parks and foreshore areas.”
