DUNKLEY MP Peta Murphy will represent Australia at the United Nations General Assembly.
The UN General Assembly begins in New York this month, and continues until December.
While overseas, Murphy says she will address local matters remotely. “I will continue with my local work as the member for Dunkley and my parliamentary committee work while at the United Nations,” she said. “We’ve become very familiar with online meetings and the Dunkley office will remain fully operational while I work remotely.”
Nationals MP Darren Chester will also attend.
Murphy said that being appointed to the role was an “honour”.
“I look forward to bringing our local voice to global discussions on economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection and to bringing home international approaches to solving local issues such as housing affordability and workforce training,” she said. “Over the past few years, I have advocated strongly for Australia to adopt a wellbeing budget. I am pleased that the federal treasurer’s October budget will start the process. I intend to gather best practice approaches to measuring wellbeing while in New York, as we look at actions to tackle growing poverty and inequality, empower women and girls, and address the climate emergency.”
