MORE than 6000 surgeries have taken place inside the newly redeveloped Frankston Hospital. The redevelopment of the hospital, now renamed the Peninsula University Hospital, cost $1.1 billion. The new hospital building opened in January, and has since hosted more than 6400 surgeries, more than 2300 oncology treatment episodes, around 370 chemotherapy patients, and nearly 900 births. The redevelopment added an additional 130 beds and 15 operating theatres, with capacity to see an extra 35,000 patients each year. Police are investigating after the rider of an electric scooter sustained life-threatening-injuries after being struck by two vehicles in Mentone on Thursday afternoon. Investigators have been told the rider was travelling south along Charman Road when he collided into the side of a car travelling west along Balcombe Road about 4.15pm. The rider fell from the scooter before being struck by a second vehicle in middle of the intersection. The yet to be identified male rider was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
