A NEW Frankston councillor will be elected next week. Former councillor Steven Hughes resigned from Frankston Council in December. To fill the vacancy, the Victorian Electoral Commission will conduct a countback on Monday, 15 January. The North-West Ward countback will take place online at 10am. Votes will be redistributed among eligible candidates from the ward who stood at the 2020 local government election. The unsuccessful North-West Ward candidates from 2020 included former mayors Glenn Aitken and Michael O’Reilly. AFTER touring Europe in 2023 the Chamber Philharmonia Cologne will return to Australia to perform in Frankston this year. The Chamber Philharmonia Cologne has performed at home in Germany and abroad in Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Great Britain, Ireland, and beyond. It puts on hundreds of shows a year showcasing classical music. The Frankston classical music concert will feature pieces from Antonio Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, Mozart and Paganini with Carnival in Venice. Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested 14 people this month following an ongoing investigation into burglaries and aggravated burglaries in the Frankston, Carrum Downs and Seaford areas. Detectives this morning swooped on a Nepean Highway, Seaford address about 7.40am where they arrested a 31-year-old man. The Seaford man is expected to be charged later today in relation to a series of offences and resisting police at the time of his arrest. TWO teenagers have been arrested in relation to an alleged crime spree across Chelsea Heights, Keysborough, and Murrembeena this month. Police say three vehicles were stolen from a Murrembeena property overnight between 9 December and 10 December. In the early hours of 11 December, three people allegedly used edged weapons to demand cash from staff at a fast-food restaurant on Cheltenham Avenue in Keysborough. Cash was allegedly taken from the registers before the trio left in a silver MG car allegedly taken from Murrembeena the day prior. A 49-YEAR-old man and two boys aged 15 and 16 have been arrested over nearly 90 property damage incidents involving marbles. Police allege the man and two boys used a slingshot to catapult marbles into business windows in suburbs including Mentone, Bentleigh, Collingwood, Cremorne, Docklands, Richmond, South Yarra, and St Kilda. Police say 87 victims have come forward, and the offending occurred between September and December. The total damage bill exceeds $1 million, police say.
