STRICT fire restrictions came into force across the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston on Monday 10 January, with high fuel loads, recent rainfall and warm conditions causing a concern for firefighters. LIMITS on purchases have been reinstated across Woolworths stores nationwide. Customers will be limited to buying just two packs of toilet paper and painkillers during their shop. Woolworths has attributed “recent food and grocery supply chain constraints and pockets of increased demand across select categories” as the reason for the decision. MASSIVE amounts of food waste which could be turned into compost are being sent to landfill. Frankston Council estimates that half of the waste it picks up during kerbside rubbish collections is food scraps. From 2019 residents have been able to put their food waste in their garden bin so that it can be turned into compost, but many people are still throwing their scraps in the regular rubbish bin. Police have arrested a man following a fatal shooting in Mordialloc on Thursday evening. Emergency Services were called to an address in McDonald Street about 9.10pm after reports of gunshots. On arrival police found two people with critical injuries. They were treated at the scene but unfortunately died. Officers searched the area and a man was taken into custody a short time later. NEW public electric vehicle charging stations will be installed across the Kingston municipality. Two new EV charging stations will be installed. The stations are jointly funded by Kingston Council and the state government. One will be installed in Mordialloc at Peter Scullin Reserve, and one at the car park behind Woolworths on Bath Street, Chelsea. Kingston Council hopes that the stations will help council reduce its C02 emissions to net zero by 2030.
