CARRUM MP Donna Bauer is on a mission to make the Bowel Movement one of the most talked about campaigns in the country. Australia has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world. Of the 286 new cases diagnosed every week, 77 people will die from the disease. LOCAL boxing veteran Sam Soliman is Australia’s new king of the ring after being crowned world middleweight champion following his victory over IBF titleholder Felix Sturm in Germany on Sunday. But the win certainly came as no surprise to the 40-year-old champion, despite it being his first-ever major international title over his 23 year boxing career, 17 of which have been as a professional. A COMMUNITY project to replant and build a barbecue and picnic area alongside a neglected creek in Langwarrin symbolises the Islamic principles of “personal and societal cleanliness”. A plaque marking the start of the Harmony Creek project in Leisureland Drive was unveiled on Clean Up Australia Day. The project is being undertaken by members of the adjoining Ahmadiyya Muslim Association’s Bait-ul-Salam (House of Peace) mosque, Frankston Council and Melbourne Water. THERE’S a fairy good chance kids will love the festive activities set to materialise at Mordialloc foreshore this month. The Rotary Club of Mordialloc is hosting the Gnome & Fairy Festival, following last year’s successful event at the Peter Scullin Reserve, next to the Mordialloc Creek, pier and beach.
