A DATE has been set for the 2022 federal election. Voters will head to the polls this year on 21 May. Prime Minister Scott Morrison visited the Governor-General on Sunday to call the election. As of 11 April, seven candidates have nominated to run in the seat of Isaacs. The seat is currently held by Labor with a 6.5 per cent margin, and hasn’t been won by the Liberals since the 1993 election. Incumbent Labor MP Mark Dreyfus is running again. KINGSTON ratepayers will cover the cost of legal fees incurred by a developer at a VCAT hearing into plans for the Endeavour Cove precinct in Patterson Lakes. Kingston mayor Steve Staikos says that council and the developer have come to a legal settlement which will prevent the development of some areas at the Cove site. Development in areas where council approved permits in 2018 will be halted for two years. Council has agreed to pay $60,000 in ratepayer funding towards the developer’s legal fees. Their excellent showing in front of goal secured them a 10.11 (71) to 22.17 (149) win. Sorrento also showed good goalkicking form on Saturday, scoring 20 majors to put away Frankston Bombers. A PROPOSED five per cent rate cut for Frankston residents has been rejected by council. Plans for a rate cut were put forward by Cr Steven Hughes. His motion was supported by Cr Liam Hughes, but rejected by the seven other councillors at a meeting last week. The proposal would have seen general rates for Frankston ratepayers cut by five per cent in the 2022/2023 financial year. FRANKSTON Private Hospital is being converted into a public surgery centre. The state government announced the change last week. The hospital is expected to be operating as a public surgery centre sometime next year. The state government hopes that by the time it is fully operational, the hospital will have the capacity to support up to 9,000 public patients per year.
