Bad Crash Aspendale Sunday 23rd August 2020 around 2:00pm On Station St near Second Avenue Aspendale. I believe two occupants (Father and Son). The Son was ok but the father (driver) was extracted from the BMW and was given CPR for about 20 - 30 minutes next to the car. I believe they brought him back and he was transferred to a waiting ambulance where they worked on him before taking him to hospital. I don't know if the air ambulance was used. The car had hit a powere pole and brought it down and what appeared to be live wires were cordened off while the energy company made that safe. I was told the car became airborne and rolled also losing one of it's front wheels. It appears speed may have contributed to the crash. The car may have hit a lot of water on Station Street causing it to veer into the power pole. The pole looked like a concrete pole but not a hundred percent sure on that. This area along Station Street has a lot of road works at the moment and it may have happened in a 40kph zone although it was probably 60kph zone where the crash happened. This has been the second major call out for Edithvale CFA in the past week, the other call out was to a person falling from a roof onto scaffolding. I got to that job too late but there is plenty of pics on various facebook pages.

A MAN was taken to hospital in a critical condition after a horror car crash in Aspendale last week.

The driver smashed his BMW sedan into a power pole on Station Street, Sunday 23 August.

CPR was performed on the driver, who was unconscious after the crash. The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition. A passenger in the car, his son, did not suffer major physical injuries.

Edithvale CFA and Chelsea SES crews attended the crash.  Edithvale CFA OIC Graham Fountain said “upon arrival within minutes of this afternoon’s call we were confronted with a vehicle that had hit and snapped off a power pole at ground level and then rolled, live power lines on the ground, bystanders performing CPR on an unconscious male driver, with his younger son who was the passenger in the vehicle suffering minor injuries.”

“Edithvale CFA emergency medical response crews continued with CPR, defibrillation and airway management, working alongside Ambulance Victoria upon their arrival. We would like to thank the bystanders, including a nurse and doctor, for their fantastic support at today’s event,” he said.

Station Street was closed between First Avenue and Forth Avenue after the crash.

Police are now investigating what caused the crash.
