A NEW York-based philanthropic fund is helping finance a new employment skills program to help up to140 locally unemployed young people in Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. The unveiling on Friday of the new Brotherhood of St Laurence program, Creating Futures for Youth, coincided with the release of figures showing youth unemployment in the area was nearly 20 per cent. FIVE shotguns and two .22 rifles were stolen from a Seaford house between 10am Monday and 10.30am Tuesday last week. Detective Sergeant Paul Mealia, of Frankston CIU, said the firearms were registered and properly secured at the Seaford Rd house “which is a busy street, so we hope some may have seen something”. DETECTIVES from Hastings and Frankston combined on Monday last week to raid a Clyde property and recover an extensive collection of stolen property. Detective Sergeant Mel Nixon, of Hastings CIU, said items found in a shipping container in the early-morning raid included a “tinnie” with outboard motor, six trailers, excavator, tractor, 7gm of the drug ice, radio jamming device, five Pee Wee motor cycles, numerous power tools and a rifle. THE memories came flooding back for guests attending the Back to Chelsea reunion at the Chelsea hotel on Saturday. Organiser Peter Johnson was MC of the event which attracted 150 guests from as far away as Queensland, Perth and Hobart.
