THIS year’s Frankston Citizen of the Year is an expert on the city’s history. Glenda Viner is one of three award winners honoured at an Australia Day citizenship ceremony at Frankston Arts Centre. The others are Senior Citizen of the Year Marion Beattie and Young Citizen of the Year Hayley Russell. All received commemorative certificates and pins and have been asked to be involved in a range of city projects and events throughout the year. Detectives from the Frankston Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team are on the hunt for a man who exposed himself to an elderly woman in Carrum Downs last year. Investigators have been told the 65-year-old woman was walking south on Lyrebird Drive when she was approached by a man who appeared to be fiddling with his fly around 7.15am on 13 November. WARM weather last weekend had beachgoers flocking to the sea and sand, with lifesavers from Mentone to Carrum reporting business as usual. Police are appealing for public information following an attempted abduction in Oakleigh on Monday 25 August. Investigators have been told a 19-year-old woman was walking west along Atherton Road near the intersection of Station Street around 10.40am when she saw a man leaning against the bonnet of a car. She noticed the car was running and the passenger door was slightly ajar. As she walked past, the man jumped out and grabbed her by the arm, pulling her towards the car. The young woman screamed and her attacker kissed her, in an apparent attempt to smother her cries. The teenager managed to get away by…

SURGERY to ease the suffering of long-term asthma sufferers is now available at Frankston Hospital. It is the first time surgery to reduce the effects of asthma attacks on chronic asthma sufferers for whom traditional medications do not work has been offered in Victoria. Peninsula Health’s director of thoracic medicine, Professor David Langton, performed the procedure for the first time last week while accompanied by Harvard professor of medicine, Dr Armin Ernst, who pioneered the procedure.
