FRANKSTON Council has ended its alignment with the advocacy group Committee for Greater Frankston. Council joined the lobby group in May 2018, agreeing to pay $10,000 a year for membership (“Lobby group spreads influence”, The Times, 21/5/18). In March it told the committee that it had decided to withdraw its membership. FRANKSTON residents could receive vouchers for the Frankston Arts Centre, PARC, or at-call hard waste collections under a new council scheme. The proposal features in council’s draft budget, due to be considered on 10 May. The $1.1 million voucher scheme would equate in value to around $25 per ratepayer. The draft budget also features an additional $2.86 million for COVID-19 recovery measures. These include providing two hours free parking in council owned off street car parks, fee relief for kerbside trading permit fees, and more. KINGSTON Council projects a $26.8 million surplus in its draft 2021/2022 annual budget. Council has proposed to raise rates by an average of 1.5 per cent in the next financial year, a move it says is “in compliance with the Fair Go rates system legislation”. The draft 21/22 budget features $74.4 million worth of capital works projects. The most expensive project planned in the next year is the redevelopment of the Mentone Life Saving Club and foreshore precinct. That work is projected to cost ratepayers $11.2 million. DIVISION TWO MORNINGTON have scored an impressive win on their home turf. The Bulldogs stopped Rye’s undefeated start to 2021 with a hard-fought victory. Mornington got off to a hot start, scoring six goals in the first quarter. They continued to apply scoreboard pressure all afternoon, giving the Demons’ defenders headaches.
