A FRANKSTON police officer has been honoured for saving the lives of three people – one a troubled 17-year-old girl – about 250 metres offshore from the lifesaving club last February. First Constable Cameron Wallace, 35, of Hastings, received the Police Medal of Courage last week from Acting Chief Commissioner Tim Cartwright at a ceremony at the police academy. A WEATHERBOARD house in Aspendale was gutted by fire overnight on Wednesday at about 6.30pm. The unoccupied house, on the corner of Pine Cres and Station St, was described as being “beyond repair” by Detective Senior Sergeant Susannah Hughes, of Moorabbin CIU, who attended the scene. Rumours of a body inside were unfounded, she said. Edithvale CFA fought the blaze, which is being regarded as suspicious. WATER police, drug and alcohol squad members and two marine safety inspectors ran one of their biggest combined road and marine operations at Launching Way, Patterson River at Carrum, last Sunday afternoon. About 200 boats and jet skis were checked for correct safety equipment and their owners breath-tested and asked to produce valid boat licences. Seventeen infringements were issued for breaches of boating regulations and not displaying correct registration certificates on trailers. PRE-DAWN raids by police in Frankston and Seaford last week resulted in five people being arrested and charged in relation to a “significant” heroin trafficking enterprise. They have been charged with trafficking heroin and profiting from the proceeds of crime. Warrants were executed on houses in Frankston North, Seaford and Frankston on Wednesday at around 4am as a result of a long-term investigation.
