NEW picnic tables are being installed for the summer. Around 100 tables will be put up in a bid to help provide more outdoor seating space for residents. RULES for dogs during the summer period are now in effect. Year-round, dogs are permitted off-leash on the Mentone foreshore between Charman Road and Plummer Road. During summer dogs can be exercised off lead in Carrum from the southern end of Old Post Office Lane car park to Osprey Lane from 7.30pm to 10am. At other times there are no dogs allowed in that area. No dogs are allowed at any time between Bay Street and Mordialloc Creek. A PUBLIC park on Evelyn Street is one step closer to fruition. A contract worth just over $1.2 million has been awarded for necessary construction works. LJM Construction Australia will undertake the project. The projected total cost of the project is just over $1.57 million. The works will cost $130,000 more to ratepayers than council initially budgeted for. The shortfall will be incorporated into the mid-year budget review. MOST COVID-19 restrictions have finally been lifted statewide. For vaccinated people, life has returned to close to what it once was. Capacity limits at venues and events have been lifted, dance floors are back open, and mask rules have been further eased. Detectives from the Southern Metro Division 4 Response Unit have today arrested two people after a search warrant was executed at an address in Seaford. The search warrant was conducted at the East Road address around 9am after a long investigation into drug trafficking and explosives.
